Hormone Treatment & Pellet FAQs

What are Bioidentical Hormones?

Bio-identical or Bio-Equivalent Hormones are hormones that are chemically structured to be equal to the hormones that our own bodies produce. By contrast, synthetic hormones are distinctly hormones that are patentable such as Prempro, Premarin and Provera.
Many physicians will prescribe synthetic hormones to treat menopausal symptoms. This, however, does not correct the hormonal imbalances, which cause so many health problems.*

Which Hormones Should I Take?

Women naturally produce estrogen, testosterone, and progesterone. Most women will chose to have these hormones replaced with bio-identical pellets to achieve optimal balance again. Men produce mainly testosterone. Testosterone in men is much higher than in women. In most men testosterone will be replaced in order to bring the levels back to those of a more youthful man.*

How are my Hormone Levels Determined?

First, we’ll ask you for a detailed personal and family health history. Then, we’ll perform a simple examination and give you a blood test. This will help us determine the dosage you need to rebalance your hormones. You will be seen in 2 – 4 days to discuss your personal treatment plan.*

What can I Expect During the Procedure?

What has come to be known as the “pellet,” is similar to the size of a grain of rice. A small area of lateral buttocks is anesthetized then a micro- incision is made in the fleshy part and the pellets are inserted under the skin. The area is covered with a small dressing, and since this is an minor outpatient procedure the patient can return to either work or home the same day. A follow up blood draw is required 4 weeks after the placement of the pellets to evaluate the level of the patient.*

What Should I Expect After Having the Procedure?

Within 10 to 14 days, after the insertion you should begin to experience some relief of your symptoms. After about three weeks you should see many differences, which may include: more energy, better rest, increased sex drive, better memory, and the ability to handle stress better.*

How Many Treatments Should I Get?

Patients are asked to have blood work done before an insertion and about four weeks after. This helps determine hormone levels and the dosage necessary to balance your hormones at the time, since our hormones change through out stages in our day and life. Typically, men and women receive implants about every 4 to 6 months depending on how they feel and where their hormone levels are at that time.*
