The Crazy 8’s!

Medical weight loss in HoustonNew Year, New You, I’m sure you’ve heard this phrase one too many times. Everyone wants to be healthier, more fit, eat better, and maybe even save more money. What do you think is the percentage of people that achieve their resolution goals is? According to University of Scranton research, 8% of people achieve their New Year resolutions.

Why is it that only 8% stay on track? Is there secret to this? Well, the easiest way to put it is….YES there is. But before I spill the beans, I want to go ahead and introduce myself. My name is Vanessa Duenas and I am the newest member to the MyVita Wellness Institute family. I have developed my knowledge and passion of health, fitness and overall wellness within the past 8 years. Being an ex-collegiate athlete and graduate from Louisiana State University with a Master of Science in Kinesiology, I have been fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to expand my knowledge and do what I love as my career. Within my 8 years of experience in this field I have done personal training, swimming coaching, health coaching, nutrition & wellness consulting, cardiovascular research, weight loss, optimizing sport performance and vitamin and mineral supplementation consulting.

Now that you know a little bit about my background, the secret is having a PLAN; a plan that keeps you accountable, committed and motivated to continue with your goal or goals. Around the month of March is when individuals begin to “fall off” the New Year’s resolution ban wagon. This is the time to focus on your body and health and share it with your family! March is known to be the month of nutrition, so this would be the perfect time to put some extra effort into focusing on your health.

In the 8 years of experience that I have acquired in the wellness industry, I have narrowed it down to 8 things to keep in mind when you just want to give up.

To be within the 8%, these are 8 tips to have in mind:

  1. STAY POSITIVE! You are worth it!
  2. Keep it simple
  3. Make one change at a time. One small change every day adds up.
  4. Have some keep you accountable whether it is a friend, trainer or coach
  5. Make short term goals for your long term goals and reward yourself when you have meet these goals
  6. Stay committed and focused
  7. Find a support system such as: family, friends, and/or co-workers
  8. Revaluate every week and see what needs to be altered to either get back on track or continue your journey
